Mosques of Athens

One topic that I intend to include here is places of worship. Even though I'm not religious myself I do love the architecture of the medieval churches tucked in almost in every corner of the city center.

However , I'm also fan of multiculturalism and I'll start with mosques as I love to show the less obvious.

Fethiye Mosque

and Tzistarakis Mosque ( now Museum of Greek Folk Art )

Graffities

So typically me... I couldn't wait till next weekend to start writing here. Instead I checked my photos in my mobile/ laptop/ facebook and try to sort them out.

Let's start with graffities. This kind of art is - more or less like anything else in Greece - controversial. Some people are complaining that it is an extra kind of "pollution" in the  already troubled city center while others find them- well , most of them, at least- a beautiful twist in city's grey canvas .

Here you some in the area of Metaxourgeio painted at abandoned homes' facades

and one in Plaka

Intro

 Beautiful Corners of Athens

Welcome to my new blog ! It has been a while I wanted to create a new blog since I sent my last one to oblivion. I kept thinking what it should be about... until today - a lazy Sunday - that it hit me to blog about the city I was born and raised in. ATHENS !

Most foreigners when thinking about Athens mean Acropolis and its surroundings but that's not what this blog would be about. You can find hundreds tourist guides in the net. You don't need me.

Most of the city's inhabitants ( I won't say Athenians because the latter are a very rare kind ) are complaining about the city's ugliness forgetting that every coin has two sides and it all depends on your perspective and what you actually want to see when you are looking at things.

Athens is , indeed, big and chaotic. With all the pro's and con's a big city has. I will try to focus on the pro's obviously.

I will be dedicating a day in a week to walk a neighborhood and try to capture it with my lens and try to tell you its story !

See you next week :)
